BIO

Henry Bolz III attended the United States Military Academy at West Point and graduated in 1971. After completing his five-year military obligation as an Infantry Officer, he attended the University of Florida School of Law, where he was an editor of the Law Review and received his juris doctorate in 1978. 

 

Upon graduation from law school, Bolz moved to Miami, where he has been continuously engaged in civil litigation trial practice, beginning as an associate and then as a partner at Smathers & Thompson.  When Smathers & Thompson merged with Kelley Drye & Warren in 1987, he was a partner at Kelley Drye & Warren through 1994.  From 1995 through 2002, he was “Of Counsel” to Clarke Silverglate Campbell Williams & Montgomery.  In March 2002, Mr. Bolz became a named partner in Keller & Bolz, LLP, where he practiced until June 2020 .

 

Bolz's practice has involved many aspects of civil litigation with a primary emphasis on maritime and admiralty law, personal injury, and insurance defense.  More specifically in Admiralty, he has experience with Limitation of Liability actions, personal injury and wrongful death claims arising under the Jones Act, LHWCA, DOHSA, and general maritime law; collision; property damage; maritime products liability; vessel charter contracts; maritime liens; salvage; vessel arrests; U.S. Marshal’s sales; and the pursuit and defense of cargo claims. He is also experienced in drafting vessel charter contracts, Bills of Lading, vessel mortgages, and other maritime -related documents.  His insurance practice has included numerous coverage claims and defenses under CGL, Maritime Liability, and Hull and P&I policies (bluewater and yacht policies).

 

The practice of Bolz has included numerous commercial disputes involving a broad range of factual/legal problems and issues in numerous state and federal trial courts throughout the State of Florida and, from time to time, in other states.  In addition to trial work, Bolz has extensive experience in both the prosecution and defense of appeals in both the state and federal systems.

 

Bolz is admitted to the United States Supreme Court, the Eleventh and Fifth Circuit Courts of Appeals, the United States District Courts for the Middle and Southern Districts of Florida, and the Florida Supreme Court.  He is a member of The Florida Bar, The Dade County Bar Association, and The Maritime Law Association.
